In 2000 I moved from the USA to Singapore and it was there, on the long train rides to and from work that I started realizing that I actually had a love for reading as recreation (really to pass the time on the tedious rides) which I had always avoided in years past due to my dyslexia, one of the first books I fell in love with was Reign of the Dead by Len Barnhart. I was actually ordering some much anticipated zombie movies from amazon.com when I accidentally ordered Len's book thinking it was another movie. I have to admit I was a bit disappointed when I opened my amazon.com package and realized RotD was a book and not a movie, but I started reading it anyway. By the second page, I WAS HOOKED. The book was great and my imagination morbid enough that the movie just played in my head as I read. I am not lying when I say I literally didn't put the book down, except for a call of nature break or so, before I realized that me.... the dyslexic guy who hated to read.... had finished the book in one day. Now for those of you normal non dyslexic people out there who have loved to read all your life, reading a book in a day is not any great feat. For me... the guy who takes two weeks to read a moderately thick novel every time i have bothered to try it, a book in one day was amazing. Needless to say I immediately ordered Len's second book "Apocalypse End" and upon receiving it, I gobbled up every word of that one as well. This was ten years ago and I am now hopelessly hooked on zombie novels, but Len's work is yet the measuring stick by which all the other novels are measured. Over this last year I have had the fortune to befriend Len Barnhart on facebook and we have had opportunity to chat and get to know each other a bit. I had to chuckle when I asked him "why a zombie novel" and he answered "Because there were too many Star Trek books on the shelves" he went on to say that the genre has always been interesting to him and that it's an area where you can really have the freedom to be creative in your writing. Well, if you're here reading this introduction, you will see the links below that will take you to Len's website. If you are a lover of the zombie horror genre, I would encourage you to give his books a try. I promise you that you will not regret that you did.
